McClaren sacked as England coach

Steve McClaren has been sacked as England coach following his side's failure to qualify for Euro 2008.
Assistant coach Terry Venables has also lost his job in what the Football Association said was a unanimous decision by its board.
The FA brought a swift end to McClaren's 18-match reign as England's head coach at an emergency meeting.

There could be no other decision after failing to qualify for euro2008.

a poor qualifying effort including losses in Croatia and Russia, drawing at home to Macedonia and away to Isreal. Last night's 3-2 loss at home to Croatia was the final straw.

The stage was set for a remarkable qualifying after Isreal pulled out a shock victory over the russians at the weekend, giving England a lifeline and only needing a home draw against a Croatian side with nothing to play for.

however England went 2-0 down after just 15 mins before comming back to 2-2 before losing it 3-2.
