Police are trying to trace the person who sent £43,000-worth of euros to a boy who bid for a PlayStation on eBay.
The box of cash arrived unexpectedly at the youngster's home in Aylsham, Norfolk, in a package also containing the games console, police said.

Detectives collected the money after being contacted by the parents of the boy, who has not been named.

A spokesman for Norfolk Police said the matter was being investigated under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

"There's obviously a concern about where the money came from," he said.

"Our economic crime unit is trying to find out who sent it."

A spokesman for eBay said: "We know eBay is a great place to pick up a bargain although, in this case, we agree that the contents of the parcel were somewhat unusual and we will assist with any inquiries police may wish to make."

Police said the money was being stored under the Police Property Act.

A spokesman said efforts would be made to return the cash to its owner, unless it was found to have been obtained illegally.

If the owner is not traced, a hearing is likely to take place to decide what to do with it, he said.

Sources said one option would be returning it to the teenager.
